A push by Indianapolis' advertising and design agencies to nab higher-profile campaigns and more national clients has garnered success, with the big and not-so-big agencies taking their work across state lines.
One testament to the local industry's creative power appears inside the Indianapolis offices of Brainstorm. The small design group beat out a New York firm for a major Indianapolis Motor Speedway account, a contract to design logos for IMS' three largest events -- the Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400 and U.S. Grand Prix.
It's the first time an Indianapolis firm has been commissioned to design all three. Brainstorm's work will be splashed on billboards, Pepsi cans, apparel, TV broadcasts and race cars.
"It's proof we know what we're doing," said Bob Blass, president and founder of Brainstorm. "There is talent, and there is good thinking right here (in Indianapolis)."
"Indianapolis Motor Speedway is kind of about Indianapolis," Blass said. "It's kind of a hometown coup."
